TCA Chemical Peels
TCA stands for Trichloroacetic and is a stronger chemical peel that we use in our London dermatology clinic. Although the Hydra-facial and ZO Red Carpet Peels which are light Glycolic Acid peels brighten and smooth the skin the next level up is the TCA peels.
There are two levels – the next level being the ZO 3 Step peel then the Controlled Depth peel.
After commencing skin care for 1-3 months depending on your skin time which prepares your skin to an optimal state prior to either 3 Step or Controlled Depth Peel.
The right peel is decided after detailed consultation with Dr Prasad.
A 3 step Peel is performed at a time planned away from your work because you will have approximately 4-5 days of peeling and about 7 days of recovery time.
The procedure is suitable for all skin types and is designed to exfoliate the top layers of skin and stimulate cellular function in the skin’s deeper layers. Older TCAs tended to be very irritating and with higher risk of complications. This formula is unique in that whilst calming and soothing the skin. It’s a system which means little or no downtime.
When you come in for the 3 step peel, as the name suggests there are 3 main steps:
Step 1 – Your skin will be cleaned then whilst your skin is cooled with a fan or cooler the peel solution itself is applied whilst keeping your comfortable. The peel contains a blend of 17% salicylic, 10% trichloracetic (TCA) , and 5% lactic acids; it also contains ingredients that minimise inflammation and help hydrate the skin.
Step 2 – Stimulating 6% Retinol Creme. This is applied immediately after the peel solution, and works to stimulate cellular function at a deep level for collagen enhancement, firming, and wrinkle reduction.
Step 3 – Application of the Calming Creme Post Procedure Skin Relief. This cream is used as a finishing product to minimise any inflammation and irritation that may result after the first two steps, and restore moisture.
You will then be given detailed instructions for home care and how to restart your ZO Skin care programme.
Most patients need 1-2 peels every 4-6 months giving them dramatic results.

TCA Touch Faq
After consultation you will be given written information and time to consider whether you wish to have the treatment like all treatments at the clinic. We recommend having the peel on a thursday or friday so that you are off work at the weekend when your peeling has reached its peak. This means that most people take Friday and Monday.
The price of the peel included the Peel Treatment and the cream required afterwards to use for 2-3 days after.
The reason we recommend this peel is when you have pigmentation or skin issues that are sitting in the deeper layers of your skin and these generally do improve significantly with the very light glycolic peels like Hydrafacial or Red Carpet.
You would have a consultation with Dr Prasad this treatment will be then discussed in detail if appropriate for your skin needs. The peel treats a multitude of problems because it takes off the epidermis layer of your skin and thus improves sun damage, hyper-pigmentation and superficial to moderate scars, although for deeper scars we recommend the ZO controlled depth peel.
This is because medical grade care such as ZO and prescription medicines we recommend is much more active and clinically effective than others. If we apply the strong peel on your face without preparing the canvas of your face your skin will not react and heal as well as it would when we prime the cells with bioactive products that improve your skin cellular function. In Asian or Afro-carribean skin it is crucial to suppress the pigment producing cell to prevent hyper-pigmentation problems after a peel.
