Melasma is a common facial rash which presents as areas of brownish dark patches, usually in symmetrical pattern, on sun-exposed areas, especially of the face.
In women hormonal influences such as the pill and pregnancy also have a part to play. It is more common in women and in Indian/Afro-Carribean/Hispanic patients.
At Faciem Dermatology London we can successfully treat melasma and hyper-pigmentation with a number of highly effective medical grade products and peels and we have had the most dramatic results.

Consultation
Successful melasma treatment starts with detailed medical history and examination assessing the severity of melasma, previous treatments and responses, microscope examination of the skin assessing the depth of the pigmentation.
Prescriptions
Medical Grade skin care is highly successful and safe in treating melasma and remains the gold standard. We use both Hydroquinone and Non hydroquinone approaches. Maintenance treatment is very important after the condition is corrected to prevent recurrence.
Chemical Peels
We use TCA peels to correct melasma in conjunction with prescription grade skincare. This is the most effective area for large patches of melasma. We use the ZO 3 Step Peel or ZO Controlled Depth Peel.
Lasers
Laser resurfacing can help to treatment sun damage and pigmentation but without control of the pigment producing cells with prescription skin care complications can occur. A combined approach is always better.
