Ingrowing Hair
Ingrowing hair, otherwise called razor bumps, is often caused by thick coarse hair becoming coiled underneath the skin. This leads to blockage of the hair follicle and as a result causes inflammation which presents as redness or dark marks called post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.
It can occur on any hair bearing area. In the beard area he dermatological term for this is Pseudofolliculitis Barbae and often more common in Indian and Afro-carribean skin due to the type of hair.
Ingrowing hair can be improved with exfoliating but the gold standard ( Ideal treatment) is the use of a suitable and safe laser to remove the hair or make it finer.

Skin Care
We will assess your skin and prescribe you a skin care regime which is written down with detailed instructions. These can include an exfoliating cleanser, a granular exfoliator or a glycolic acid. If you have surrounding hair follicle inflammation and hyper-pigmentation we will prescribe products that heal this.
Steroid injections to the area
In dermatology we use a medicine called trimacilinone which is a steroid anti-inflammatory medicine. This is usually injected into the inflamed areas and as a result prevents the formation of keloids and scar tissue.
Laser hair removal
Laser truly tackles the root of the problem. The thickness and density of the hairs becomes much finer and there is permanent hair reduction. At Faciem we have a range of pricing and packages. Generally 4-6 sessions are needed 4 or 6 weeks apart depending on the area concerned. Read tips about removing Ingrown hair at home.
